Setting BASIC OPTIONS

The STOPzilla BASIC OPTIONS dialog enables you to indicate how you want STOPzilla! to work, and provides tools to perform some basic tasks.

To view the STOPzilla BASIC OPTIONS menu:

  1. Right-click the System Tray Icon and select View BASIC OPTIONS. The system will display the STOPzilla BASIC OPTIONS dialog. Spyware Protection, Pop-Up Protection and basic options are all pre-set for you. You can leave the defaults or change them. Once these options are set up - or the default settings are left unchanged - most users forget about STOPzilla! and just enjoy surfing, free of worries.

  2. To change the default options, all of which are set to Yes, click the option button associated with each one. If you choose No, the dot will no longer be displayed in the center of the option button, and this feature will be disabled. You may re-enable it at any time.

If you are running a DEMO version of STOPzilla, a gold key will be displayed in the lower left corner of the BASIC OPTIONS dialog. Click the key at any time to register STOPzilla. This key will not be displayed once the product is registered.

Set BASIC OPTIONS as follows:

  1. SPYWARE PROTECTION - Use the large Enable and Disable option buttons to indicate that you wish to Enable or Disable Real-Time Spyware Protection. The default setting is Enable. If you change the default setting, STOPzilla will display a message indicating that disabling this feature may leave your system vulnerable to Spyware.

Disabling Real-Time Spyware Protection is NEVER recommended!

  2. POP-UP PROTECTION - Use the large Enable and Disable option buttons to indicate that you wish to Enable or Disable pop-up ads. The default setting is Enable. If you change the default setting, STOPzilla will display a message indicating that disabling this feature will allow unsolicited pop-ups to be displayed.

Disabling Advanced Pop-Up Protection is NEVER recommended!

  3. CONFIGURE OPTIONS

      • Auto-enable STOPzilla whenever my computer starts. When selected (default), STOPzilla! will automatically start every time you start your computer.

      • Show Splash Screen whenever my computer starts. When selected (default), turns the STOPzilla startup splash screen on or off. The splash screen displays information about the version of STOPzilla you are running.

      • Play audible alarm whenever STOPzilla detects a threat. When selected (default), regardless of the blocking state, STOPzilla will alert you with an audible cue when a threat has been detected.

      • Automatically download and install definition updates. When selected (default), all definition updates (minor enhancements) will be downloaded and installed automatically without informing you. When cleared, STOPzilla will notify you when definition updates are available and prompt you to download them manually.

STOPzilla strongly recommends that you use the auto download feature. This will ensure that you will always have the latest weapons against Spyware.

TOOLS

At the bottom of the BASIC OPTIONS dialog, there are six icons representing Tools. As you mouseover each icon, a tooltip displays the function of the tool, for your convenience.

Some of these tools are accessible via the Tools flyout menu in the Main menu.

Tools (left to right) are as follows:

View THREAT MANAGER

The THREAT MANAGER is a record of all incoming threats including detailed information and the severity of each. The THREAT MANAGER also enables subscribers to remove blocked threats. The REMOVE feature is not available on the DEMO version of STOPzilla. However, the DEMO will block and quarantine threats. Please see: THREAT MANAGER and Spyware Severity.

View BLACK LIST

The BLACK LIST is a record of every attempt made by pop-ups to access your system. STOPzilla! does not rely on the BLACK LIST to do its job. The BLACK LIST is a management tool that provides you with the opportunity to view previously blocked pop-ups or change the current status of a detected pop-up.

Select View BLACK LIST to see the BLACK LIST. Please see: Viewing the BLACK LIST, and BLACK LIST Functions.

Clear COOKIES

Select Clear COOKIES to erase all Internet cookies currently residing on your system. A cookie file is information that a Web site puts on your hard disk so that it can remember something about you at a later time. Cookies are not inherently bad.

Clear HISTORY

Select Clear HISTORY to erase your Internet Surfing History (URLs). Your history is a record of all Internet sites that you have visited. This is a privacy feature. The sites you visit are your business.

Reset DEFAULT VALUES & ALERTS

Select Reset DEFAULT VALUES & ALERTS to undo any changes you have made in this dialog and return the configuration to the defaults set by STOPzilla! The default values are shown in the illustration of the BASIC OPTIONS Configuration dialog above.

Run SETUP WIZARD

Select Run SETUP WIZARD to see the basic settings you made when installing STOPzilla! or to familiarize yourself with the product and settings if someone else installed STOPzilla! in your computer. This function enables you to change existing settings. Please see: The STOPzilla Setup Wizard.

Check for UPDATES

Select Check for UPDATES to check the STOPzilla! Web site for any available Updates & Upgrades and initialize a download if necessary. You can set STOPzilla to perform this function automatically, whenever you boot up if you select Automatically download and install definition updates from the CONFIGURATION OPTIONS.

It is highly recommended that you always run the latest version of the product, with the latest updates.

View ADVANCED OPTIONS

Select View ADVANCED OPTIONS to make additional security settings and remove records of Internet use selectively. This feature is provided for "Power Users."  Please see: ADVANCED Options.
