download and automatically install Web components. Typically, a Web page
may need to download items to display the page properly, or to perform
a particular task. This is also a good opportunity for Spyware to be installed
on your computer. STOPzilla's default setting is Disable Install on Demand.

Disable
Install on Demand (Other) - Switches on/off the Disable Install
on Demand for browsers other than Internet Explorer./p>

becomes available. Type in the URL of your desired homepage to protect
this homepage from being hijacked (replaced) by any malicious software.

whether an alert is displayed.

buttons that remove specific kinds of records, or footprints you leave
when you surf the Internet. You can use these command buttons to remove
records such as cookies, URL History, etc., individually, or you can select

Internet
Cache - Internet Cache Files, stored in the your Temporary Internet
Files folder contain a record of items you have seen, heard, or downloaded
from the Web, including images, sounds, Web pages, etc. Storing these
files in your cache can make browsing the Web faster because it usually
takes your computer less time to display a Web page when it can call up
information from your Temporary Internet Files folder. However, these
files take up disk space, which could degrade performance, and serve as
a record of your Web surfing. Click for a prompt to remove all Internet
Cache Files. Options are Yes, No and View.
Browser
History - Your Browser History is a record of all of the Web sites
to which you have navigated via Internet Explorer. Click for a prompt
to remove your Browser History. Options are Yes,
No and View.
Please see: Tools.
Temp
Files - Windows-based programs, as you install and use them, create
temporary files on your hard drive, and store them in the Temp folder
or in subfolders that the setup process creates. Setup routines and programs
are designed to delete the Temp files they created, but often do not.
These files accumulate in your computer, using up valuable space and degrading
performance. Click for a prompt to remove all Temp Files. Options are
Yes, No
and View.
Recycle
Bin - Windows-based programs store deleted files in the Recycle
Bin. To guard against accidental deletion of important files, the Recycle
Bin collects these files and provides a method of restoring them. To protect
your privacy from those who would, "go through your trash",
empty the Recycle Bin as required. Click for a prompt to empty the Recycle
Bin. Options are Yes, No
and View.
Clear
All when computer shuts down - Select this option if you would
like STOPzilla to remove all of your tracks automatically (Cookies, URL
History, Run History, Browser History, Temp Files, etc.) each time you
shut down your computer. In the default setting, the check box is cleared
(not checked.)
Miscellaneous
Protect system "HOSTS"
file - Select this option to prevent intruders from changing your Hosts
file.
Your Hosts file is like an address
book. When you type an address into your browser, the Hosts file is consulted
to see if you have the IP
address, or "telephone number," for that site. If you do, then
your computer will "call it" and the site will open. If not,
your computer will ask your ISP
for the phone number before it can "call" that site. Most users
do not have addresses in their "address books," because none
have been put there. STOPzilla puts known Malware names into your Hosts
file with your own computer's address. If you try to access these sites,
you will be "calling yourself" and get a "busy signal".
Your computer will then give up calling the ad server. No ads will be
loaded, no tracking will occur.
Disable Windows Messenger Service ("net send" messages): Select this option to prevent Windows Messenger pop-ups from being displayed.
